When McLaren introduced the 650S at the Geneva Motor Show last week, it became obvious that the 12C will be somewhat left behind. Now we are having the first sign of that, with the British announcing they’ve paused the 12C production in order to kickstart the 650S.
McLaren has already received a number and, with its limited production capacity, has chosen this path in order to be able to satisfy these. The automotive producer predicts that the new model will account for the majority of sales, despite the GBP 20,000 price premium it brings over the 12C.
The Brits expect that customers won’t have an issue with paying what it the equivalent of some optional extras, for a car that comes with so many new elements. We’ll remind you that the P1-inspired front fascia of the 650S hides quite a lot of changes.
McLaren has used customer feedback, as well as its own testing result to improve the 12C heavily and thus the 650S was born.
Moreover, the higher price of the 650S means that there will be a clear line between this and McLaren’s future release. We are talking about the P13, an entry-level Mac that is scheduled to arrive in the course of the following year.
