McLaren MP4-12C Supercar to Cost $229,000

We can finally tell you how much you have to save up if you want to buy McLaren’s first road car in almost a decade. The manufacturer has announced a price tag for the MP4-12C supercar, and you’ll have to cough up $229,000 to get behind the wheel of their latest product.

As you would expect, the 12C is priced to compete with its biggest rivals from Ferrari and Lamborghini, with the 458 Italia costing around $225,000 and the newest Gallardo LP-570-4 just over $237,000 in the US. McLaren is hoping to charge you extra want if you want to spec your car with optional goodies, including new wheels, custom paint and even GoPro cameras that record your track day events.

As with all supercars, having the money means nothing if you are not already on the waiting list. However, we mustn’t forget that such performance machines offer the kind of excitement that will easily make you forget how much you’ve payed or how long the waiting list is.

The MP4-12C is powered by a 3.8L V8 twin-turbo engine producing 600 horsepower. The mill is mated to a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual-clutch gearbox (SSG). Thanks to all that power, the car can accelerate from naught to sixty in the low 3-second range and has a top speed of more than 200 mph (321 km/h).

Inside, there will be a choice of 14 interior trim levels. Performance upgrades should also include a sports exhaust, carbon ceramic brake discs, polished brake calipers and two lightweight forged wheel options. Carbon-fiber options will include mirror casings, engine bay panels and engine cover.
