The McLaren MP4-12C is one of the most advanced cars you could legally drive on the road. It was built by engineers with decades of racing experience behind them, which they have expertly adapted for road use. The heart of the MP4-12C is its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which pumps out 625 hp and 600 Nm.
However, as with most twin-turbocharged V8s, the addition of forced induction does substantially detract from the crispness and (welcome) roughness which usually characterizes such engines. The car is able to sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in one tenth over three seconds, before topping out at 333 km/h (206 mph).
Now, despite being a turbocharged engine, the McLaren powerplant has a unique engine note, which if you were to hear for the first time (and know your engine sounds), you would not immediately tell it’s a V8. However, it is a great and unique sound which perfectly defines the modern-industrial-techno style which is evident in every single aspect of the car - we like it!
