McLaren F1 Team has announced that Danish driver Kevin Magnussen will be replacing Sergio Perez for the 2014 Formula One season. The 21-year-old driver is part of McLaren’s Young Driver Programme and had its first F1 track experience last year, during a McLaren test in Abu Dhabi.
Son of sportscar racer and former F1 driver Jan Magnussen, the Dane started his racing career in the Danish Formula Ford in 2008. He has previously competed in the ADAC Formel Masters, Eurocup Formula Renault, German Formula 3, British Formula Three and Formula Renault 3.5 Series, which he won earlier this year.
"I'm absolutely overjoyed to be making my Formula 1 debut with McLaren," said Magnussen. “I’ll put it simply: this team is the best. It's been my dream to drive for McLaren ever since I was a small kid, and it's no exaggeration to say that I've dedicated almost every day of my life to achieving the goal of becoming a McLaren Formula 1 driver.”
In Formula One related news, Lotus confirmed that Heikki Kovalainen will be replacing Kimi Raikkonen for the last two GPs of the season.
