Raikkonen to Miss Final F1 Races After Back Surgery

Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen will miss the final two races of the 2013 Formula One season in order to undergo back surgery, Lotus F1 Team announced on Sunday via their official Twitter feed.

This means Raikkonen’s time with Lotus comes to an early halt, as the Finn has already signed a contract with Ferrari starting next season. The relationship between Raikkonen and the British team has deteriorated dramatically towards the end of the season amid an ongoing pay dispute, with rumors claiming the Finn may forfeit the last two F1 races in protest.

Lotus has yet to announce the replacement driver for the United States and Brazilian GPs, but we should find out his name later this week, before practice for the next race begin on Friday.

Kimi Raikkonen leaves the 2013 F1 season in third place, which means he could lose up to three places in the drivers’ championship until the end of campaign.
