The idea of the premium supermini was introduced and popularized by BMW’s ‘New Mini’, yet now we have the Citroen DS3, Opel Adam and even the Peugeot 208, which is ‘bordering on premium’, if you will. Now, according to autocar.co.uk, Mazda is also looking to build its very own premium supermini, to rival the aforementioned cars.
The British site quotes Ichiro Hirose, vice-president of research and development at Mazda Europe, who said that the automaker "was interested in the premium sub-B class, and we could have a car launched within the next two or three years". They did study the idea of a premium supermini, back in 2008, with the Kiyora concept, but their design language has moved on since then, so it’s doubtful that the production car will bear any resemblance to it whatsoever.

It will still be undoubtedly a good looking car, if it becomes a reality, since the CX-5 and the new Mazda6 are quite good to look at - we would go so far as to say that the 6 is the best looking car in its class.
