Mazda Shows Some Skin in Canada

In a very unusual attempt to appeal to younger customers, the Canadian division of Japanese manufacturer Mazda announced yesterday it will begin offering its customers a very interesting option: create the outside of a Mazda2 as they desire.

Through a set of vinyl decals called “Skin,” Mazda is offering a visual identity created by eight young men and women from different departments within the company who, according to the carmaker, are part of what Mazda likes to call Generation-Y demographic.

The program will not be offered outside Canada, unfortunately. If you are a Canadian resident, though, you can choose one of the following “skins”: three music-based themes (Rock, Pop and Urban) and one performance-inspired theme (Speed).

If you think that's not much of an offering, just wait. All themes come in three different sizes (small, medium and large) and seven different colors, made to match the exterior of your Mazda 2. Aside from that, the carmaker has on the table no less than 84 different decal variations.

“Today’s young people are all about standing out from the crowd, and expressing their own style and taste,” David Klan, Mazda Canada Marketing and Sales director stated.

“Demonstrating their ‘personal brand’ is important, and we are offering them a unique new means of self-expression with both our Skins program as well as our Mazda2 Yozora special edition.”

Prices for the options range, depending on the size chosen, from $375 to $595 plus installation. Additional details about the skins, as well as a configurator, can be found by accessing the following link.
