The very first Mustang, which most people refer to as the 1964 1/2 model, was offered with a mix of six-cylinders and V8s, with Ford then operating a series of changes for the full MY 1965.
The six-cylinder unit on this model was unique to the 1964 1/2 Mustang and came in the form of a 170 (2.8-liter) rated at 105 horsepower.

The first V8 in the lineup was the 260 (4.3-liter) Windsor that got pulled a few months later. A 4-barrel version of the famous 289 (4.7-liter) Windsor was available with 210 horsepower, while the HiPo unit was offered as the top-of-the-line configuration with 271 horsepower.

The Mustang that we have here is a great testament to the 1964 1/2 model, as it retains everything that was on the car when Ford shipped it to the customer.

The seller explains on Craigslist that it sports power steering and other options, all alongside the matching-numbers engine the vehicle was born with.

It’s not hard to figure out from the photos that this Mustang isn’t exactly a car that can return to the road right now, but the good news is the V8 engine is still running.

However, its rough condition includes occasional rust here and there, yet a visual inspection to better determine what needs to be fixed and what doesn’t. We’re not being told if any major patches, such as on the floors and in the trunk, are currently required.

The only major shortcoming appears to be the price. While it’s pretty clear this is a project car that will require many fixes, the owner still isn’t willing to let it go for less than $9,000. Of course, this is rather ambitious, even for a first-year Mustang, but any potential buyer should just go check the car in person to better determine its current condition.
