Matching Numbers 1963 Impala SS Hides Something Original Under the Hood

The 1963 Chevrolet Impala was part of the third generation, and while the 1965 model was the one that managed the performance of reaching 1 million units sold in the United States alone, its predecessors paved the way for such a major accomplishment.

And the ’63 Impala SS you’re looking at right here shows exactly why the third generation was a highly successful model as well. It comes as a high-optioned model that includes AM radio, power steering, a vinyl interior, and aluminum allow wheels with radial tires.

As you could easily guess by simply looking at the photos in the gallery, this Impala SS has already been restored to factory specifications, and it has been perfectly maintained since then.

No specifics have been provided on the restoration project, but the folks over at Gateway Classic Cars, who are now selling the car at their garage in Louisville, claim the black paint and the vinyl interior both look impeccable. There’s little to no wear inside, so the Impala comes in nearly mind condition overall.

As for what’s hiding under the hood, let’s start by saying this is a matching numbers Impala powered by the original 409ci (6.7-liter) V8 unit. It’s paired with the original 2-speed transmission, and both run just properly.

Our only concern, however, is the mileage, as there’s something you should inspect closer here. According to the listing, the odometer has actually stopped working some time ago, so it’s locked at 60,996 miles (98,163 km). Still, the owner told the garage they have already added some 5,000 miles (8,046 km) since the whole thing broke down. So, in theory, the mileage should now be close to 66,000 miles (106,216 km), give or take a few miles.

As for the price, this Impala isn’t necessarily the most affordable, but it’s not the most expensive either. The current price is $49,000, and some financing options are also available.
