The 2020 health crisis has brought with it a lot of changes, including in the realm of superyacht design.
The growing trend of working remotely has turned superyachts into floating offices for the wealthy, who are no longer acquiring yachts just to relish quick family vacations in renowned locations. They want their recreational watercraft to also be suitable for extended stays and allow them to continue running their businesses while sailing around the world.

Technology advancements and flexible working hours have made living and working from a superyacht a viable lifestyle choice, allowing owners to conduct business via emails and video calls from almost anywhere at sea.

This is what the owners of Marsa, the third Amels 200 yacht in the Amels Limited Editions series, wanted from their seafarer, too. The 197-foot (60-meter) superyacht is a semi-custom design and differs greatly from the previous two Amels 200 hulls, Stella M and Moonstone. That's because the owners requested a different layout with a dedicated space to be able to constantly work remotely.

As a result, Marsa, which has recently been delivered from Damen Yachting's shipyard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, features a distinctive living area designed to cater to the owners' need to work remotely at sea.

Of course, the primary goal is to entertain friends and family on board the superyacht, so other unique features meant to enhance the yachting experience are present, such as an additional balcony to the main deck and an outdoor bar to every deck.

Tom Oomkens, Project Manager at Damen Yachting, explains that "This yacht perfectly reflects the owner's unique vision. [...] The owner had many exciting design ideas and is experienced – which benefitted the project hugely."

In terms of exterior design, Marsa stands out with its customized Whisper Gray hull and subtle accents in the same color on the exterior curves and arches of the superstructure. The windbreakers also boast a dark grey tone to mimic the windows.

Tim Heywood Design is responsible for the vessel's exterior lines, while the interior was penned by UK-based Winch Design. With a generous interior volume of 1,015 gross tons, Marsa offers accommodation for up to 12 guests across a six stateroom configuration, plus 13 crew members.

Pictures and details about the interior are very scarce, but we do know it has been designed with long expeditions in mind. It certainly features generous spaces for lounging, entertaining, and working, as the owner plans to spend extended periods at sea exploring the Mediterranean.

Apart from the dedicated office area that will offer breathtaking sea views, other noteworthy features include an air-conditioned gym on the sundeck, full-height windows in the owner's suite, and a four-deck elevator that connects the lower-deck staterooms to the levels above.

As for propulsion, Marsa is designed to embrace environmentally friendly practices for significant emissions reduction. It is fitted with a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system that will allow it to reach a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles (8,334 km).

"It was so rewarding to see the owners on board for the christening and blessing ceremony and enjoy that their unique vision became reality," Oomkens added. "They were very impressed with the magic we did in the time we had."

The owners of Marsa signed the contract in May 2021 and got their yacht delivered in November 2023. The superyacht is now getting ready to embark on its maiden voyage, following a private itinerary.
