Manthey has worked its magic again, this time on the range-topping version of the Porsche 718 Cayman family, the GT4 RS. This track-ready sports car capable of smoking some older blue-blooded machines between the apexes has received a few upgrades that make it faster at the racetrack, and a power boost is not among them.
You see, instead of taking the easy path, which would've meant tuning the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated straight-six, they gave it some aerodynamic trickery. Shared with the 911 GT3, the engine develops 493 hp (500ps/368 kW) and 331 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. Without outside intervention, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS does the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.2 seconds and maxes out at 196 mph (315 kph).

So, what did Manthey do to it to further enhance its racing prowess? They gave it several aerodynamic updates that significantly improve the downforce. Up front, the vehicle has new air curtains, flaps, and a wheel arch gurney flap, as well as a new carbon underbody with diffusers. Sporting new blades and bigger endplates, the large rear wing has become 85 mm (3.3 in) wider. Reinforced with a carbon-weave finish, the rear engine cover is part of the novelties, and the CFRP-made aero discs on the rear wheels complete the aerodynamic makeover.

Additional extras that can be fitted alongside the Manthey Kit mentioned above are the CFRP rear spoiler attachment. It has a carbon-weave finish and can be mated to the standard rear spoiler to increase the rear axle downforce by another four percent. Optional louvers with a carbon-weave look are available for the front wings, matching the look of the optional Weissach pack.

A special coilover suspension developed by Porsche and Manthey, with four-position adjustable spring struts, and rebound and compression stages that can be adjusted without any tools, is also available for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The front spring rates have been increased by twenty percent, Manthey says, and the chassis comes in two setups for vehicles with and without the nose lift system. Steel brake lines are included, and the racing pads are available as an option, alongside the towing loops and illuminated door sill guards with the Manthey logo.

But how quick is the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS when fitted with all these extra goodies that will launch in Europe in December, with other markets to follow? Try 6.179 seconds faster than the stock one at the Nurburgring. With Jorg Bergmeister, Porsche's brand ambassador, behind the wheel, the sports car completed a lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:03.121 minutes. The impressive achievement over the 20.8-kilometer (12.9-mile) long course was certified by a notary, and Manthey claims that both the stock and the tuned Caymans were fitted with the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
