When Pierangelo Andreani designed the Maserati Biturbo family, we doubt he ever considered the luxury auto could ever turn into a boat. Not everybody thinks alike when it comes to cars, though, and this particular motorist figured he could find a path that could unite the automotive and sailing worlds into one.
Maserati produced these line of luxury vehicles between 1981 and 1994. The original Biturbo was a two-door, four-seater notchback coupe that featured a two-liter V6 engine with two turbochargers and luxurious interior. This family had them all - sportscars, saloons and grand tourers, you name it. If they did lack one thing, that clearly is the boat styling if that even exists.

Still, this fine gentleman from Italy found a way around the “conservative” values of the 1980s automotive industry, apparently. According to The Mirror, the man was later identified as Marco Amoretti, a 40-year-old craftsman who drove - or should we say sailed? - his Maserati sportscar through the center of Rome. Instead of using roads, he just went for the river Tiber this time.

Apparently, he converted his older ride into this amphibious craft that instead of a biturbo engine uses the regular boat motor. You may think the vehicle itself is hilarious, but wait to hear the best part of the story.

You see, when firefighters saw the man cruising the river they called the police. That’s how they found out that the Maserati Biturbo, complete with sunroof and rudder, has been on a similar track before. The funny fellow later revealed he had started his unusual journey in La Spezia in the north-east of Italy and had intended to head for the city of Venice. Amoretti had tried it before, back in 2009, when he was again arrested.

Hey, we get that Venice is famous for its canals and the lack of streets, but we’re pretty sure a floating car is not the way around the marshy lagoon in the Adriatic Sea.
