Dubai Police Adds Quadski to the Fleet

If anything, being a cop in Dubai comes with sky-high changes that you end up behind the wheel of a supercar. The Dubai Police fleet contains jewels such as Bugatti Veyron, Mercedes G63 AMG, Aston Martin One-77 and many more, but recently things got more serious in the watersports department. The Dubai Police is getting Gibbs Quadski units, and this means even less running from the police, and even on water.

Still, the Quadski can be outrun by powerful boats, but to no avail. The GCC’s (Gulf Cooperation Council) fastest powerboat which can be seen below is definitely on par with the water speed record-setting boats and will put a rather early end to such a chase. What can Quaski do?
We’ve reported about the evolution of the Gibbs Quadski on several occasions, even before it entered production. If this is the first time you meet this vehicle, brace yourself, speed is coming. First off, we’re dealing with an amphibious vehicle. A quad or ATV on land, the Quadski quickly transforms into a jet ski once it hits the water. And this time “quickly” means around 5 seconds, which makes transitions between firm ground and water almost seamless.

Under the hull of the Gibbs Quadski you’ll be surprised to find a BMW engine sourced off the K1300S model. The in-line four can deliver a whopping 140 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 87 lb-ft (118 Nm). Gibbs modified the cooling system, and it now has dual-cooling: closed-loop for land operation and open-loop for wet environments.

One of the most spectacular things about the Quadski is definitely its top speed. The Quadski is as fast on ground as it is in the water, and can reach 45 mph (72 km/h). Or 38.9 knots, for what’s worth. The Twitter source doesn’t mention whether the Dubai Police plans to use only the single-seat Quadski (pictured) or is eyeing the Quadski XL, too, but we’ll definitely find this out soon.

At the US price of $40,000 for the base model Quadski, this looks like a rather modest shopping list for the Dubai Police, but you’d definitely not want this chasing you in the clear waters of the Gulf. If BMW built it, would the name have been K1300GW (Gelande-Wasseras in Land-Water)?
