It is indeed a miracle that the driver of this Tesla Model 3 survived. The car looks virtually demolished. The man behind the wheel was arrested, though, for impaired driving.
Photos of a badly damaged Tesla Model 3 are making the rounds on social media. The crash that the car was involved in took place on Highway 400 in Vaughan, Ontario, early morning on December 16.

The photos show a car that looks almost as bad as any car coming out of a compactor. The roof is badly bent, the front side windows and the windshield were shattered, the hood now springs upwards, and the front axle is broken. The hazard lights are still blinking and the headlights are still on after the violent double collision.

A look from the passenger's side and you can't believe that this must have been a car once. All the airbags on board were apparently deployed in the impact.

According to the police, on Saturday morning at around 5 AM, the car struck the concrete barrier of the highway and came to a stop in the fast lane of Highway 400 at Bass Pro Mills Drive.

The Tesla was heading north when it hit the concrete barrier dividing the northbound and southbound lanes. A truck hit the Tesla from behind and plunged through a fence and into a ditch off the road, several hundred feet north of the impact. The road was closed for investigation for several hours. There is no information whether the Tesla was traveling on Autopilot or not.

The transport truck suffered front end damage. Police say the driver of the Tesla was taken to hospital with unknown injuries and was arrested for impaired driving.

The OPP Highway Safety Division posted photos of the aftermath of the crash on former Twitter/current X, and people reshaped the post, praising the Tesla for protecting the life of the driver. "The Tesla is the only reason this driver is still alive," writes one of the users, impressed by the fact that the driver made it, despite the pathetic condition of the vehicle.

"Perhaps the driver will have time to reflect on his second chance at life and thank Tesla for the marvel of engineering," writes another one.

"Too drunk to use autonomous driving? I could be blackout and still work a Tesla," another user mocks the impaired driver.

"The guy’s still alive because he was in a Tesla. Any other car and that kind of impact would have crushed him," points out The Observer on the same social media network. Other users claim he was lucky that the battery did not instantly combust.
