A family in Arizona woke up to a Tesla in the pool in their backyard. The car went straight through a wall and into the water. Nobody was seriously injured, but somebody's got a lot of explaining to do to their insurance agent.
Friday morning was tough for a family living 25 minutes from downtown Pheonix, Arizona. Just before 9 AM, Joe Papineau saw a car going through the backyard of his home and into his pool. "I looked out my window and thought my worst nightmare came true," he told local news station AZFamily.

The car must have come a bit too fast through the curve near 35th and Beardsley Road, just north of Glendale, Arizona. Once it hit the wall, it went airborne into the pool, Papineau stated for the media that gathered in his backyard.

"It sounded like a bomb went off," the owner of the house said. The incident woke him up. It wasn't a bomb, it was just a dark blue Tesla ripping off a brick wall and plunging into the pool.

By the time he reached the pool, the driver had already rolled down the window and crawled out. Joe jumped into the pool himself and helped the driver get out of the water. He had just finished renovating the whole pool area. Now he has got some serious cleaning to do.

The driver was the only one in the car at the moment of the accident. He walked away with minor injuries, but the car is totaled. The bumper hangs down, hood and fenders are completely deformed, the windshield is smashed, and the roof of the car was simply cracked in the impact, and the front axle is broken.

Authorities are investigating the accident. But first details show that the driver of the Tesla was traveling southbound on 35th Street when another car pulled out in front of him. He desperately tried to avoid crashing into that car, made an evasive manoeuver, lost control, put down the concrete wall, and took a dive in the pool.

A tow truck came to the scene, and the car was eventually lifted from the pool, but not without hiccups. But the first attempt to pull the car out was a failure. Now the pool needs a new deck as well. One thing is for sure. No neighbor is going to ask Joe to try his pool anymore.

The incident sparked jokes on YouTube. "So hot in Phoenix, the self-driving cars are cooling off by any means necessary," one user writes.

"That is why you put a pool in your backyard in the first place. To protect your home from crazy drivers," another one amusingly explained.

"A Tesla in a pool is like a live radio or hair drier in a filled bath tub," writes someone who watched the video of the accident aftermath.
