Back in March, Hennessey set a new Texas Mile speed record with a modified Ford GT that hit an amazing top speed of 267.6 miles per hour (430.8 km/h), breaking their previous benchmark set at 257.7 mph (414.7 km/h) in October 2012.
However, their record stood for only six months, as the guys over at M2K Motorsports created a Ford GT that jumped the top speed mark up to 278.2 miles per hour (447.7 km/h).
According to Top Speed, the record was confirmed on the Texas Mile Facebook page, which means it will gain official status any day now. Sound like Hennessey Performance needs to get up, dust themselves off and start working on a new Texas Mile project car. If they’re not doing it already, that is.
