Lucid Motors is not in its best shape these days, but that doesn't mean the EV startup is not working to improve its customers' experience. Based on a recent job posting, Lucid seeks a product manager for media partner apps. Their immediate task is working with Apple and Amazon to integrate their music services.
Lucid Motors is one of the most promising EV startups, even though its quarterly results have been abysmal. The maker of Lucid Air luxury sedans, also busy working on the Gravity SUV, struggles to stay afloat in difficult economic times. Although many are pessimistic about its chances to succeed, Lucid Motors has powerful backers in Saudi Arabia and is also a technology donor for Aston Martin and Formula E. It's hard to fail with such solid crutches, although not impossible.

Many have praised the Lucid Air sedan for its build quality and luxurious features, which can compare favorably with the best in the automotive industry. But Lucid started sales with a very expensive model lineup in a shrinking market at a time when its main rival, Tesla, has an insatiable appetite for price cuts. As you can imagine, this makes Lucid's position almost untenable in the long run unless it can get out from the tight corner it's in.

The launch of the Gravity SUV is probably not going to change that, considering that it will likely be even more expensive than the Air. Still, Lucid is trying to compete with Tesla by lowering the price of the Air sedan. It's unclear how long it can support the new prices, considering Lucid has yet to break even. The latest price cuts brought the Air Pure AWD closer to the Tesla Model S at $74,900 versus $74,990.

Besides making its vehicles more affordable, Lucid is also trying to make them more compelling by offering features that Tesla lacks. Recently, Lucid announced that the Air would get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, one of the most popular options for car buyers nowadays. This is something neither Tesla nor Rivian is willing to promise to their customers, which makes the Lucid Air an exciting proposition.

Now, Lucid is taking things to the next level by integrating more native apps inside the infotainment system. Key to this push are music apps, mainly those from Amazon and Apple. Currently, Lucid offers a wide selection of media apps, including Spotify, Tidal, and TuneIn, but not Apple Music or Amazon Music. The move to integrate native Apple and Amazon Music apps in the Air's infotainment system has been hinted at by a recent post opening shared on LinkedIn.

According to the posting, Lucid is looking to hire a senior product manager with the main role of product owner for media partner apps. The initial posting specifically named Apple Music and Amazon Music, although it was later edited to only show the generic term "Media Partner Apps." The description is rather vague, although this is a high-paying management position that requires extensive experience with vehicle infotainment systems and media.

Although it might take time before the right person is found for the new position and they start moving things, the job offer shows Lucid's commitment to improving the media experience of its customers. Apple Music and Amazon Music are important apps for streaming music, although their corresponding services can also be accessed via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
