Now, it is finally happening. Lucid will be revealing the Gravity at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The electric SUV will join the Air sedan in the carmaker's lineup with identical powertrains and similar range figures.
Lucid is counting the days until the official unveiling of Gravity, the SUV that the company has been working on for the past three years. It was September 20, 2020, when they first announced the arrival of the model, and they have not disclosed much about it since.

Now Lucid comes up with a teaser that reads "Gravity Makes Contact," accompanied by the date of the reveal. The teaser photo shows the right rear end of the SUV, hinting at very slim taillights that might actually be integrated in an LED light strip stretching from one end to the other of the tailgate.

Most likely, the SUV will follow the design cues of the sedan. So we can expect a minimalist look with a front end individualized by the light strip above the seven-segment headlights, as shown by another teaser photo made public back in August. That one confirmed a serious similarity to the Air.

Gravity is the name inspired from nature, according to Lucid's nomenclature strategy that they started with their first model, the Air. Unlike the sedan, the SUV will be available with either a five- or a seven-seat configuration.

The Gravity SUV is expected to copy/paste the trims and powertrains of the Air sedan. The entry-level Air Pure is powered by a single electric motor, which delivered 430 horsepower to the rear axle.

Upper in the range, there are the Air Touring with 620 horsepower and the Air Grand Touring with 819 horsepower. The top-of-the-line is the Air Sapphire, rated at an impressive 1,234 horsepower. Since Lucid promised supercar performance on behalf of the Gravity, we can expect the range-topping version of the Air to have a counterpart.

The SUV is getting the same battery packs as the Air, so we should expect similar range figures for the upcoming model as well. The most efficient of the variants is the Grand Touring, equipped with the 112-kWh battery pack for an EPA-estimated range of up to 516 miles (830 kilometers). With the smaller battery pack (92 kWh), the Air Pure is able to drive as far as 410 miles (660 miles) before it needs to be plugged in again.

Therefore, we are to see the Lucid Gravity on November 16 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car will enter production in late 2024 at the new Lucid factory. This means that the Air is all the Lucid has for one more year at least. Hard times seem to be coming for the California-based brand that has only sold fewer than 1,500 examples in the third quarter of 2023.

For financial damage limitation, Lucid is offering a special 18-month lease on select Lucid Air variants, hoping to convince potential customers to buy the model.

In 2024, they will be playing all the aces up their sleeve with the Gravity, considering that SUVs have been all the rage for the past few years. It is a very rough territory for a new model in a segment in which the Mercedes EQS SUV, the Model X, and the BMW iX have been making the rules.
