Jean-Marc Gales was today announced as being the new head of Lotus Group, in charge of the company's revival. The CEO position has been left vacant since the sacking of former big-wig Dany Bahar in 2012.
Gales, a 51-year-old from Luxembourg, joins Lotus from the European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA). However, his most notable position was with PSA Peugeot Citroen, where he pushed for the new brand strategy of the DS line of premium cars and the restructuring the sales value chain.

Gales has also held positions with Daimler, General Motors, Fiat and Volkswagen. He holds a master's degree in management with the Imperial College in London, as well as one in mechanical engineering rom the University of Karlsruhe in Germany.

The new Lotus boss is announced just a few days after after Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah was announced as Proton’s new chief executive officer. Sweping changes are indeed in order at Lotus, who's plans for a larger lineup have been been brought to a standstill. At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the company unveiled a number of cool concept cars with plans for production, starting with the Esprit which was supposed to be ready in 2014.

Proton Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Abdul Harith Abdullah is pleased to welcome Gales to the Group. "This is an exciting time for Lotus, and Jean-Marc's appointment could not have come at a more appropriate time, especially taking into account our plans for Lotus. We believe that with his strong technical and managerial expertise and leadership, Jean-Marc will be able to drive the Lotus transformation plan and further enhance Lotus' business and capabilities.”
