Lotus’ big dream is still in jeopardy, but at least one of their 2010 Paris Motor Show concepts has a chance of entering production. Out of all those exciting machines, only the Esprit has a been in development so far.
And even though some reports suggested Lotus was stopping development, insiders have apparently told Autocar magazine, that the guys in Hethel are almost done with development of the automobile. Despite being almost complete, the Esprit will not go into production for some time due to management problems within the company.
According to the aforementioned source, the Esprit will feature a 5-liter V8 engine developed internally and mated to an F1-style KERS system and a seven-speed paddle-shift gearbox. Despite offering around 650 horsepower, the Esprit will only cost about GBP 100,000, which is more than reasonable.
Previous rumors spoke of a 4.8-liter V8 with about 500, so we really don’t know what to believe. But this car’s biggest problem isn’t the power, it’s the dealer network, the logo at the front and the reliability issues of the old Esprit, to name but a few issues.
