While certain people were out pulling the first Camaro Z/28 crash, Lingenfelter got its hands on one* of the only 500 examples. Last week, the specialist was working on this track-apt muscle car, with one of its employes deciding to open up in front of the camera and tell us what the crew can do for the Z/28.
The clip below, which comes from Youtube user ScottieDTV, shows us the White example of the Camaro receiving an open-heart surgery from Lingenfelter. This particular unit, *which is actually the second Z/28 they’re working on, is destined for an European customer.
That LS7 V8 you see filling up the Camaro’s engine compartment is pretty much identical to what the ex-gen C6 Corvette offered, which means that Lingenfelter already knows what to do with it. And boy do they have plans!
They dynoed the engine and while GM rates it at 50o horses at the crank, the result was 450 RWHP. From this point on, the limit is probably the owner’s imagination.
It all starts with the lighter stuff, such as the 616 (hp) cams upgrade, which will set you back about 8 grand. The next stop comes at the 630 (hp) heads and cams pack, which can be your for US$ 12,000.
Moving into the forced induction area, the seven liters can loose their natural aspiration in favor of a supercharger, be it from Edelbrock or Magnuson. As for the guys who prefer to go twin-turbo, Lingenfelter treats them with an 800 hp kit.
Mind you, this requires up to 300 hours of labor. We’re talking serious fabrication stuff here, such as new pistons, inconnel exhaust valves (Formula one-approved) and CNC-machined cylinder heads. While you wait for your Z/28 to be dipped into the badassery jar, you might as well make sure you have the US$65,000 required by the upgrade.
While all of the 500 Camaro Z/28s have been officially sold out, there still are a few unallocated units waiting for you inside the dealerships, so don’t lose hope. Oh and let's not forget GM is selling Z/28 parts to non-owners.
