The Swiss might be a peaceful, profit-loving bunch of folks, but they have one of the most well respected air forces in the world… not to mention they make those nifty little army pocket knives.
To celebrate 100 years since the founding of the Swiss Air Force, the local division of French carmaker Renault decided to build a special edition for them. It's based on the brand-spanking-new Megan RS 275 Trophy and has been baptized "Air 14".
Only 50 cars will be made and sold exclusively to the most loyal of Swiss Renault fans for the price of €36,815. Not a lot has changed, but the paintwork has been redesigned to include the famous white and red of the country's flag.
All Air 14 models come as standard with a 275 hp 2-liter turbo engine, Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, the cup chassis with a mechanical LSD and firmer suspension, Recaro bucket seats covered in alcantara and leather, and the R.S. monitor. Simply put, it's the best Megane you can buy.
The 19-inch Speedline Turini alloy wheels have been painted red especially for this car and are clad in performances Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires. Lastly, a number plaque (between 1 and 50) will be attributed to each car.
Nowadays, the Swiss Air Force has a full roster of American F/A-18 Hornet supersonic fighters. However, their beginnings were altogether more humble. The first military aviation took the form of a transport balloons. But the start of the Great War in 1914 spurred them into action and the flying corps was founded under cavalry officer Theodor Real.
