Lexus’ most exciting reveal of the year, the LF-1 Limitless concept, has reached the Big Apple this week, to be shown as the company’s flagship crossover until next Sunday at the Lexus location in New York known as Intersect.
The car was presented for the first time nearly a year ago, at the Detroit Auto Show, as a new expression of Japanese luxury. At the time of its introduction, the car had no definite engine, being described as capable to use a fuel cell, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline or electric powertrains, depending on the need.

A rumor which came rolling over the internet in November pointed to a possible production version of the model, one that could use the 3.5-liter V6 (2GR-FKS) from the LS 350 and the multi-stage hybrid from the LS 500h. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is also rumored.

Design-wise, the concept appears very athletic thanks to the dash-to-axle ratio and the use of 22-inch wheels. When seen from the front, the strangely-shaped nose, with its reshaped spindle grille, makes for one of the most interesting concepts shown all year.

It’s unlikely Lexus will be telling the world more about its intentions for the LF-1 Limitless during its stay in New York, but it’s probable we’ll hear more about a production version in the first months of next year, if this is indeed what the carmaker plans. Should the car be produced, rumor is the model will cost around $150,000.

“The LF-1 Limitless concept is our vision of a new kind of flagship vehicle that incorporates imaginative technology while creating a strong emotional connection,” said in a statement Kirk Edmondson, general manager of Intersect.

“Showcasing the vehicle in New York is a natural choice, as INTERSECT will deliver creative, exceptional moments to the city and beyond just as this concept vehicle delivers limitless possibilities.”
