Kids – with toddlers in particular – seem predisposed to injuring themselves since they lack an understanding of the concept of personal safety. This time, though, it wasn’t the kid’s fault for what happened.
Surveillance footage obtained WMC5 Action News, from Memphis, Tennessee, shows a toddler girl falling out of a moving car, into busy traffic. You can also see it at the bottom of the page; it seems that it took the driver a while to realize that they’d lost they’re human cargo from the backseat.
“Mid-South toddler survived a very close call on Jackson Avenue on Monday afternoon,” the media outlet reports. “A nearby surveillance camera shows an SUV pulling up to the corner at Gragg Avenue. But as the vehicle made the turn onto Jackson, the rear door opened, and a little girl tumbled into the road.”
The silver lining is that no one was hurt. The girl gets up immediately and doesn’t seem to have suffered any injury from the fall. To her luck, all other motorists stop before they reach her, with one concerned driver even getting out of his car and running over to pick her in his arms.
“The gentleman ran out and grabbed the child and returned the child to her family,” witness Patrick Rowland says for the same media outlet. “So, it was just nice to see something good, you know happen.”
No police report was filed, so there is no evidence of the incident happening, save for the footage. Still, even if authorities haven’t been involved, the incident can still serve as warning to parents and drivers with kids in cars: always buckle them up in their carseats, which must be appropriate for their age and height. Don’t take risks with them, or something like this can happen – or worse.
