After the negative reviews received by Mitsubishi's new subcompact car in Europe, our expectations of the Japanese models in this segment have gone down a bit. The one ray of sunshine seems to be Honda's new Jazz/Fit, as for Suzuki, their new models seem to be quite a way off.
The company which normally specializes in motorcycles has made some very interesting cars over the year, one of which is the Swift. The current generation dates back to 2011 and has already been facelifted this year.
A report from India's Team BHP states that the next generation Swift will arrive in India in 2017. Normally, we'd dismiss this as just a local market rumor, but the Swift is the best selling car in its segment there, and other cars like the new Hyundai i10 have been designed and launched in India straight away.
Until 2017, the Swift could receive another update, as the visual changes made to the car this year are quite modest, basically just paint, wheels and a strip of LEDs.
Suzuki will also have a replacement for the Ritz, known in Europe as the Splash. This will be ready in 2015 and both models will likely feature better gadgets and a brand new range of diesel engines made by Suzuki themselves, unlike the Fiat-sourced units they currently offer.
