Land Rover to Assemble Cars in India Starting from 2011

Land Rover is continuing its evolution process debuted back in 2008 when the company was acquired by the Indian Tata Motors Group.

The next step for the company will include outsourcing a part of its assembly operations to India, as Reuters reports.

Tata Motors’s Chief Executive Officer, Carl Peter Forster, said that Land Rover will start bringing vehicles to the world via India starting from next year.

Land Rover’s Indian assembly site will be located in Pune. The company will ship knockdown production kits to the country, where these will become cars. However, he didn’t offer additional details about the move. This means that we will have to wait in order to find out what models will be assembled there, or the annual output of the plant.

This isn’t the only car building move that Land Rover is working on. Forster also revealed that Tata Motors is currently negotiating with a Chinese partner in order to establish a joint venture for Jaguar Land Rover in the country. This would allow the vehicles belonging to both brands to be assembled there.

Land Rover is also in the midst of a new model offensive. At the beginning of July, the automotive producer introduced a new entry-level, urban-style vehicle called Evoque. This is offered both as a 2WD and as a 4WD vehicle and has already received a wave of positive responses from the public and the media.

In addition to that, the company also plans to introduce an additional model that will be placed between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, with the details currently being limited.
