Range Rover Evoque Prototypes Coming to Your City

The Range Rover Evoque has now reached the final testing phase, with the automaker also using the testing sessions as a marketing opportunity.

Hundreds of Evoque prototypes will be dispatched around the world to be tested in the toughest climates and conditions. But instead of keeping the operation secret, Land Rover has dressed 10 of the cars in funky camouflage and will introduce each car to a key city of the world.

The vehicles, which draw as much attention as possible, represent London, New York, Sao Paulo, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Berlin, Sydney, Shanghai and Moscow.

The Evoque test program involves many of the British automotive producer’s 3,500 engineers, with special teams being created to travel to 20 countries where the Evoque will have to prove itself in extreme conditions, ranging from the desert to the Arctic and from German Autobahns to Tokyo city traffic.

The special camouflage on the 10 prototypes is actually a GPS mapping trail of the aforementioned 10 cities, with each car saying “Hello” to its location.

The development stage is crucial in the year leading up to launching the car,” said Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover programmes. “No stone is left unturned, we have a team of experience and skilled engineers who will work to a tight schedule to ensure we have a top quality vehicle to offer our consumers.

The new Evoque is the smallest, lightest and most efficient model ever to be offered by Land Rover, and will be offered starting from the summer of 2011, entering 160 markets around the world.
