Land Rover is getting greener day by day, just like all the other automakers across the globe who are seeking new ways to raise fuel efficiency while reducing CO2 emissions. After debuting the new Freelander with stop-start systems, a hybrid Land Rover LRX is also on the table, with the parent company likely to push it into mass production in the next few years.
Details are still in the early stages, but according to a report by autoexpress.co.uk, the car will probably feature a combination of a combustion and an electric engine that will provide three driving modes: solely electric, on gasoline or a mix of the two. Each of these will bring significant fuel reduction figures.
The hybrid LRX is expected sometime in the next few years but new technologies, especially aimed at reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions are very likely to join the future Land Rover models.
Back in March, a company official said that the future LRX will be the most fuel efficient model in the whole lineup, as it will feature several enhancements especially aimed at cutting the use of gas.
"It would be the smallest, lightest and most efficient Range Rover that we've ever built," Phil Popham, Managing Director of Land Rover, said.
"The compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies of the LRX Concept showed how Land Rover is planning to respond to the needs of a changing world. Despite the current economic challenges, we remain committed to investing for the future, to continue to deliver relevant vehicles for our customers, with the outstanding breadth of capability for which we are world-renowned."
