It has been a minute since we last talked about the Lamborghini Urus super-SUV – and that was just to let everyone know the Italian high-riding machine is the latest victim of the mighty Tesla Cybertruck.
Sure, the comparison between a turbo V8-equipped crossover SUV and an edgy full-size EV pickup truck might be farfetched. But they did it anyway, and hopefully, the new darling of the quarter-mile drag racing community will keep it confined to the local dragstrip rather than the streets. If not, and they were in Italy, they would quickly find their match.

Nope, it's not the latest Lamborghini Urus Performante Polizia special service vehicle – it's the good old radio: nothing travels faster than radio waves when you break the law. Anyway, as far as the bespoke Urus Performante we see dressed in white and light blue with details like yellow and blue checkered decals and the Italian flag, this one is not trying to catch anyone – just help save lives.

According to the automaker, Automobili Lamborghini and the Italian "Polizia di Stato" have been in a fruitful partnership for two decades – and now the Sant'Agata Bolognese automaker has prepared a Urus Performante for the Italian Highway Police that will enter service next year after the recent presentation in Rome. This bespoke super-SUV is actually "fitted out for organ transport and special services," so it's not precisely chasing any bad guys.

Of course, it also got a lovely little ceremony to mark the special occasion - Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, handed the SUV's keys to Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi in the presence of Head of Police Vittorio Pisani right in front of everyone, in Piazza del Viminale, Rome. As noted by the carmaker, this is the sixth Lambo enjoying active duty alongside the Italian state police's Highway Police fleet – the others are Huracán LP610-4 supercars.

"It is with great pleasure that we are continuing our twenty-year cooperation with the Italian State Police," commented Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "Knowing that our cars are used for public duties and, above all, for crucial operations to save human lives can only make me and the whole company proud. These initiatives, which bring us great satisfaction, demonstrate our innate close ties with Italy."

Lamborghini Centro Stile handled the design of the police livery on the Urus Performante; Lamborghini technicians fitted the super-SUV according to police specifications, including the 360-degree blue LED lights on the roof and two-tone electric sirens. Interestingly, although the vehicle is focused on "special services including the urgent medical transport of organs and plasma," inside the cockpit, there is still the full array of police equipment: an armored weapon box, a flip-down message display, plus the special compartment in the trunk containing service equipment and a defibrillator for first aid response, along with a portable fridge for the transportation of organs.
