Lamborghini is preparing to introduce a third model to its range. We recently told you that one potential vehicle that would join the carmaker’s V10 and V12 supercars could be as SUV, which would be a reincarnation of the LM002 monster.
However, Lamborghini’s boss Stephan Winkelman squashed the rumor, stating that the company is likely to offer a four-door model instead, as autocar reports.
We’ll remind you that Lamborghini presented the Estoque, a concept of a four-door coupe, at the 2008 Paris Auto Show.
“We have opportunities outside the supercar business, and we showed that with Estoque,” said Winkelmann. “It had a more enthusiastic response than we had expected. It was the right time to see if the brand could go outside of supercars. Even now, people are still emailing me about us making the Estoque,” the executive was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.
Winkelman explained that an SUV wouldn’t fit Lamborghini’s philosophy, adding that such a vehicle doesn’t exist in the company’s price range.
As for the four-door creations, this is seen as a vehicle that could bring new customers for the brand. The explanation for that is simple: the vehicle would come with the Raging Bull’s DNA, but offer a much higher level of practicality than the carmaker’s supercars.
The Estoque seems to have a pretty solid business case, as the four-door coupe segment has been on a constant expansion in the last few years. Actually, this is one of the segments with the greatest potential and Lambo could face strong competition in the future if it decided to enter it.
Our say: Make it incredibly fast, don't enter the hybrid area, and we won't complain.
