Ferrari Rules Out Four-Door Saloon

Although rivals like Aston Martin or Porsche have revealed four-door coupes lately, it seems that for Ferrari this would represent a sacrilege. Ferrari boss, Amedeo Felisa, said the Italian brand will never follow rivals Aston Martin an Porsche into making a four-door sports saloon.

“As Enzo Ferrari would say, we will never do four doors. And we will keep this tradition,” Felisa was quoted as saying by Autocar. Ferrari’s CEO believes the market doesn’t need such a model. “Frankly speaking no-one is asking for a four-door Ferrari. If you want a four door Ferrari we have a Maserati”, Felisa added.

The official also said that Ferrari’s tradition didn’t include four-door vehicles: “We stand 60 years and we never needed four doors. What never means, I don’t know, but one of the strong points of Ferrari is to keep the product in the right way. I’m not saying four doors is not right for the image, but it’s not part of our heritage.”

When asked why Ferrari is planning a hybrid car and is also implementing fuel-saving stop-start technology on its models, Felisa replied: “Hybrid was forced on us by regulation, there is no regulation forcing us to do four doors.”

Porsche has built its first ever four-door vehicle in 2002, when the Cayenne SUV was launched. Last year, the German sportscar maker unveiled the Panamera, a 4-door sports saloon. Aston Martin starts sales of its Rapide 4-door coupe this year, while Lamborghini’s Estoque project was canned because of the financial crisis.
