Kymco’s Electric RevoNEX Is Set to go Into Production
The manufacturer’s creativity is pleasantly electrifying this time around. Last year’s EICMA Motorcycle Show hosted in Milan had a great deal of pleasant surprises in store for us. Among them, the reveal of Kymco’s RevoNEX concept, along with the company’s firm promise to make it available for purchase by 2021, were possibly the most delightful of all.

The six-speed RevoNEX electric is regarded as being one of the most promising e-roadster concepts by many riding enthusiasts, and the recently filed patent images indicate that they’re planning on fulfilling the promise made back in 2019.

What makes Kymco’s concept unique is the pursuit of appealing to more conservative bikers who love their purring, gasoline-powered engines and can’t imagine abandoning them for a quieter, eco-friendly alternative. At this point, that would be the vast majority of motorcyclists.

You can’t ignore the demands of the market; it just doesn’t work that way! This manufacturer seems to know it just as well, and therefore made the RevoNEX so…traditional. Separate front and rear brakes, a bar-mounted clutch lever and the six-speed transmission with a foot-operated shift will have you forget you’re sitting on an electric.

Hearing those revs on your mill isn’t just satisfying, but also serves to let you know it’s time to switch gears. Since our newcomer does have a multispeed transmission, the noise-generating system amplifying the electric motor’s sound is a characteristic we welcome with open arms.

And yes, if you feel like leaving it in second gear and going from zero to 50mph, the nature of its engine lets you do that as well. Personally, shifting through gears with that clutch would come naturally.

Kymco’s new styling patents reveal more details and minor alterations on a design that’s remained true to its original form presented in 2019. Some have criticized the decision to opt for a chain final drive instead of a belt, pointing out that it’d be considerably noisy on an electric two-wheeler, without intake or exhaust sounds to cover it.

This problem appears to now be fixed with a chain guard that attaches to the swingarm, which should prove to reduce noise by a significant margin.

We notice the wheels going from five to seven-spoke and a new caliper design replacing the initial Brembo brakes. The rear suspension was given a different rising-rate linkage and shock, while subtle modifications were made to the master cylinder and sidestand. You’ll find that the pillion seat is covered and the cooling air intake at the front hasn’t escaped a makeover either.

Fine-tuning and attention to detail are always appreciated!

RevoNEX is believed to reach the 0-62mph dash in no longer than 3.9 seconds and have a top speed of up to 127mph, but vital details such as its weight, power or range remain a mystery, at least for now.

In any case, it’s very likely that it could give Kymco the upper hand in the electric motorcycles industry, but we’ll only know that for sure when it’ll eventually hit the showrooms in 2021, so let’s not jump to conclusions too early on.
