A new track-class hero will be born! KTM is currently developing a hardcore version of the X-BOW. Dubbed X-BOW R, the vehicle will make its market entry in 2011.
The vehicle will use the engine from the Audi S3. However, the turbocharged 2.0 liter unit will come with certain modifications that will allow it to deliver 300 hp. In addition to that, the engine will be positioned lower and use new mounts in order to offer more precise handling.
Customers will be able to choose two optional packages: Sport and Race. The first one is road-legal, while the second one restricts the vehicle to track use but also makes it a nimbler animal.
The company has not released the exact details of the two packages, only mentioning that multiple parts included in them will also be available separately.
“The road legal and homologated “Sport” package, as well as the “Race” package, which is optimised for track use. The packages each include a vast number of completely new developed parts, which increase the performance of the car dramatically. Many of these parts will be also available separately in the PowerParts program, so all current KTM X-BOW owners will enjoy the benefit of the new developments,” stated the press release.
In addition to that, KTM is working on the 2011 X-BOW model, which will be unveiled early next year.
The car you see in the adjacent images is a prototype which is being tested on the Nurburgring and includes most of the newly-developed parts.
