Swedish supercar producer Koenigsegg is now battling the airbag problem that has kept Italian supercar company Pagani from bringing the Huayra in the US and forced Lotus to withdraw the Elise and Exige, aiming to bring the Agera and Agera R to the country.
Koenigsegg is in talks with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for receiving a second smart airbag exemption in order to brings the extreme machines on the US country.
Even though Panagani has failed to achieve this, Koenissegg aims to convince the NHTSA that it can’t install smart airbags due to “substantial economic hardship” and wants to bring the first Agera in the US by June.
Smart airbags are design to calculate their trajectory based on the weight detected on the passenger’s seat and the lack of such a feature seriously threatens children in case of an impact. The supercar producer is trying to convince the authorities that owners of such cars do not take children aboard, or do this on very rare occasions.
