Kia gives everyone a glimpse of what the production-ready EV3 will be ahead of its global unveiling. It is the first teaser released by the carmaker that has started the final countdown before the global presentation of the entry-level model of its electric lineup.
The Kia EV3 will drop as the brand's new compact electric crossover. The teaser reveals geometric lines, similar to those of its siblings, proving that it belongs to the EV lineup, while showing a solid resemblance to the EV3 SUV Concept that Kia showcased six months ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show to preview the production-ready version.

The three teaser photos confirm that the EV3 will have narrow LED headlights, flanking a more rounded front end instead of the upright shape that the EV9 comes with, for instance.

There is also a tilted window at the opposite end of the car, while the taillights are almost identical to those of the concept car. It is what Kia calls the "Star Map lighting," designed to secure the EV3 a futuristic look.

As shown by the spy photos, the model will most likely receive larger side mirrors and door handles. Redesigned bumpers and different wheel designs must also be part of the plan to differentiate the production model from the concept car.

There are no photo teasers of the interior, but if the concept car is anything to go by, we should expect a minimalist layout where physical buttons are a rarity, but not quite like in the concept car.

Kia's first compact electric crossover will be underpinned by the carmaker's E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) and will feature a 400-volt architecture instead of the 800-volt version that equips the EV9. This means that the model won't get ultra-fast charging capabilities. The EV3 should be equipped with the 58 kWh and the 77.4 kWh battery packs.

The entry-level version will be powered by a single motor, while Kia will roll out the upper trims with a two-motor layout.

Kia is thus pressing the acceleration pedal in the transition to a fully electric lineup. But with the EV demand melting down for the past few months, we have yet to see if they won't press the brake pedal just like many other automakers have done.

Kia set the date for the unveiling of the EV3 but has never confirmed its arrival in America, where it would only stand a chance in an already ultra-crowded segment if it qualified for the $7,500 incentive. This means that Kia will have to build it in America. The model, however, will reportedly roll off the production line in Monterrey, Mexico.

The model will have its global debut on May 23 during an event that will be live-streamed on the brand's YouTube channel. The EV3 will go on sale later this year. The EV4 sedan will be the next in line, but we won't get to see it before 2025.
