Kia SPORTSPACE is one of the concepts that were given the chance to debut online, prior to the official reveal during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. However, the South-Korean carmaker kept details to a minimum until today, when a set of additional images and spec were revealed.
Upon seeing what Kia has been cooking up with its SPORTSPACE Concept, it was only natural to ask ourselves whether this prototype is aiming at a new Optima Estate, maybe destined for the European market. Anyway, we were impressed to see that Kia designers did a good job in coming up with a stylish estate capable of accommodating four passengers. Wait, that means Kia is looking to launch a competitor for the Insignia Tourer and the Passat Variant, right?

Could be, especially after new details say the concept is 4,855 mm (191.1 in) long, 1,870 mm (73.6 in) wide and 1,425 (56.1 in) mm tall. Moreover, the wheelbase stretches to 2,840 mm (111.8 in) so this should mean a better-than-average interior space for passengers to enjoy. That is, If there will ever be a production model.

“Kia does not have a wagon in this important segment of the European market, but I was determined that we would not simply create something that conformed to tradition. I always had this picture in my mind of creating a vehicle that I could have used to go for a weekend’s skiing with friends [...], said Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer at Kia Europe.

Speaking of which, according to Kia, the rear section of the car where the central tunnel connects to the trunk was the centre of attention and Korean engineers came up with a special loading system that uses 28 rolling balls positioned in the matte leather trunk floor.

The engine compartment will be filled by a conventional four-cylinder 2.0-liter T-GDI turbo petrol engine with direct injection, good for 250 HP transferred to the front axle. There’s no word on a hybrid or electric powertrain option, although right now, this is a rising trend among Asian carmakers (and also European and American ones).

We'll be able to provide more info on the concept it will have made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
