Remember when Kias were rather affordable? That was quite a long time ago, though. Over in the United Kingdom, the EV6 GT used to be Kia's most expensive new vehicle prior to July 2023 at 62,645 pounds sterling or 79,635 dollars. With the introduction of the EV9, the family-sized electric utility vehicle has taken its place due to an OTR starting price of £64,995 or $82,625.
That kind of money gets you the rear-wheel-drive Air, which is the lowest specification available in this part of the world. At the other end of the spectrum, the six-seat dual-motor GT-Line S is a staggering £78,745 or $100,070 at current exchange rates. Crazy, innit?

For what it's worth, you do get a lot of car. First and foremost, the EV9 Air offers the most driving range of the bunch at 336 miles (541 kilometers) in the WLTP combined test cycle. The dual-motor GT-Line and GT-Line S make do with 308 miles (496 kilometers) due to their second electric motor and additional equipment.

Speaking of which, all trim levels get a three-screen dashboard layout consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the sat nav and other whatnots, and a 5.3-inch touchscreen for the climate control. A wireless phone charger also happens to be standard, along with heated and ventilated front and outer second-row seats, LED exterior lighting, seven years of Kia Connect telematics, electrically folding heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, an electronic rearview mirror, as well as nine airbags.

The list of standard goodies further includes a three-pin socket in the trunk, V2L capability for powering external devices, fingerprint recognition, a digital key, parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, a heated steering wheel, two dual-zone air conditioning systems (up front and in the rear), second-row manual window blinds, a smart power tailgate, two USB-C charging ports per row for a grand total of six, navigation-based smart cruise control, and Highway Driving Assist 2 semiautonomous driving with Hands-on Detection.

Equipped with 19-inch alloys and Bio PU leather-free upholstery, the EV9 Air belts out 201 hp and 350 Nm (258 pound-feet) of torque at full chatter. Aurora Red is the standard no-cost exterior paint finish. Midnight Black, Lithium Silver, and White Pearl cost £725.

The GT-Line is a visual package first and a better-equipped trim second. It sweetens the deal with bridge-type roof rails, two-tone upholstery, small cube-design adaptive headlamps, memory for the driver's seat, premium relaxation front seats, massage for the driver's seat, a black headliner, aluminum pedals, and remote parking assist. Shadow Gray is the only addition to the optional colors list in the GT-Line's case, and similar to the finishes from before, it retails at £725 ($925).

The GT-Line S carries over the seven-seat layout of the GT-Line and Air. The six-seat option mentioned earlier comes exclusively in Pacific Matte Blue. 21-inch alloys, a front tilt/slide sunroof, a second-row sunroof with a manually sliding blind, a head-up display, and 12 premium speakers from Meridian pretty much seal the deal. As for oomph, make that 378 horsepower and 700 Nm (516 pound-feet) for the GT-Line and GT-Line S.
