Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are interested in producing electric vehicles in the United States of America. The luxury-oriented marque already makes the zero-emission version of the GV70 in Montgomery, Alabama. Not long now, Kia will follow suit with the all-new EV9, a three-row electric SUV with a similar footprint to the internal combustion-engined Telluride.
More than $200 million have been reserved for an expansion of the West Point assembly plant in Georgia, where the family-sized utility vehicle will enter production sometime in the second quarter of 2024. Otherwise said, the US-built EV9 will start landing on dealer lots in summer 2024 for the 2025 model year.

The mountain of cash mentioned earlier will create in the ballpark of 200 jobs at West Point, which currently produces the K5, Sportage, Sorento, and Telluride. In addition to being the US-built electric vehicle from Kia, the EV9 also happens to be Kia's most expensive battery-electric vehicle to date. Pricing for the US market hasn't been confirmed yet, but a customer survey conducted by Kia suggests $56,000 as the base price.

By comparison, the EV6 carries a starting price of $42,600. It's also worth mentioning the EV9 starts at £64,995 in the United Kingdom, whereas the performance-oriented EV6 GT is £62,645 at press time. Speaking of which, the EV6 GT will be joined by the Ioniq 5 N for the 2024 model year. The newcomer will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a rear wiper that's likely to carry over to lesser trim levels.

Turning out attention back to the all-new EV9, the highlights come in the form of 7 seats, up to 300 miles (483 kilometers) of driving range for the Wind+ RWD, up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kilograms) in terms of towing capacity, and 24 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent from a DC fast charger.

Based on the E-GMP electric vehicle architecture of the Ioniq 5 and EV6, the EV9 flaunts an 800-volt setup. Available with second-row captain's chairs (for a grand total of six), the EV9 also boasts a V2L outlet in the cargo area for powering whatnots at up to 3.68 kW.

Highlights further include a dual-motor option with 379 horsepower and 516 pound-feet (700 Nm) on deck, enabling a 0-60 acceleration of 5.0 seconds flat. Listed with up to 7.8 inches (19.8 centimeters) of ground clearance, the EV9 is a tantalizing proposition for EV buyers due to an industry-leading 10-year warranty.

Scheduled to arrive in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2023, the largest electric passenger vehicle from Kia is manufactured in Gwangmyeong, South Korea. Formerly known as the Sohari Plant, said facility is located just south of the country's capital of Seoul.
