The all-new Kia Carens has made its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, attacking what Kia believes to be a very dynamic market – family MPVs. This people mover is supposed to combine style and functionality and should be a good rival to established brands like Opel or Renault.
The Carens will go on sale in 2013 in Europe and will most likely be locally produced. The MPV promises to have a range of efficient engines with outputs from 115 to 177 PS. It’s possible there will also be an AWD version, since the Hyundai version will be labled as a crossover: ix30.
The platform is borrowed from the Cee’d and stretched to fit up to seven people. The styling is also carried over, and we have to say it’s more distinctive than any VW MPV. Large families, look out: the Koreans are coming to get you.
“The new Carens builds on the family-friendly versatility and functionality of its predecessor, and features more athletic and visually dynamic design,” says Hyoung-Keun Lee, Vice Chairman and CEO, Kia Motors Corporation. “This marks a dramatic shift forward for our MPV contender and brings the model in line with Kia’s distinctive current design direction.”
