The Kenguru EV does away with the need to do an expensive conversion of a car or MPV, in order to be operated only via hand controls, as well as accommodating a wheelchair. It is also compact, green and quite funky-looking and different and it definitely has its own appeal.
Production of the Hungarian-designed Kenguru has just commenced in Pflugerville, Texas and it is expected to cost $25,000 when goes in sale in 6 to 12 months - which is way too expensive, we say. If it would have been priced at one third, or even half that sum, it would have made financial, as well as functional sense - right now, only the latter is actually true. While the 550 kg (1200 lb) EV can travel at speeds up to 45 km/h (28 mph) and has a range of between 70 and 110 km (43 and 68 miles), it is still very hard to justify the very high price tag.

If, however, they realize that it’s just too expensive to be really successful and genuinely help people in need, rather than just make money off their backs, and lower its price point, they may have a shot. Otherwise, this will probably be the last time we hear of the Kenguru.
