Thanks to Custom Garage Ljubljana, this KZ550 regained its former youth.
The entity we’ll be looking at today hails from a moto surgeon trio that goes about its daily business in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Back in 2017, the folks over at Custom Garage Ljubljana worked their magic on an early ‘80s model from Kawasaki’s KZ550 family, and the crew’s painstaking efforts certainly paid off.

Kawasaki’s fiend is brought to life by an air-cooled DOHC inline-four beast, with two valves per cylinder head and a displacement of 553 cc. At approximately 9,000 revs, this bad boy is fully capable of supplying up to 58 hp, while a solid torque output of just over 35 pound-feet (48 Nm) will be produced at 7,000 rpm.

A six-speed transmission is tasked with feeding the engine’s oomph to the rear 16-inch wheel via a chain final drive. All things considered, it’s quite safe to say this creature was one competent piece of two-wheeled machinery.

Slovenia’s experts kicked things off by honoring the bike’s aging inline-four mill with an extensive overhaul. Besides refurbishing its weary components, the team also disposed of the stock exhaust system to make room for a custom counterpart, along with a set of pod filters.

Additionally, the carburetors were rebuilt, while the powerplant’s exterior received a thorough scrub to have it shine once again. As soon as their work on the powertrain was wrapped up, the CGL pros proceeded to replace the KZ550’s standard subframe with a loop-style alternative, which supports a handsome leather saddle.

You will find a pair of bespoke fenders hugging Continental’s top-shelf TKV tires on both ends. At the front, the creature hosts a selection of aftermarket items, such as a fresh headlight and clip-on handlebars, as well as a tiny speedometer and new turn signals. Furthermore, the rear suspension setup was blessed with a couple of piggyback shock absorbers.

Lastly, the wheels and frame were enveloped in a satin black finish that makes the pearlescent white gas tank truly stand out. This, ladies and gents, is moto craftmanship at its finest!
