Jorge Lorenzo Wins 7th Race of 2010, at Brno

Jorge Lorenzo may very well be in the running for a new world record in the MotoGP series. While his main target is to become world champion for the first time in career, the Majorcan keeps winning race after race in the 2010 championship. His latest occurred in the Czech Republic GP, where he bagged his 7th victory of the season with a dominant performance on the Brno Circuit.

All the Yamaha rider needed was a few hundreds of meters, meaning the distance between the start and the first corner, where he overtook both Dani Pedrosa (Honda) and his reportedly upcoming teammate Ben Spies (Tech 3 Yamaha) for 1st place. From that point on, he never let go of the leading spot, leaving Pedrosa fight for 2nd against Spies.

The Honda rider didn't take long to grab 2nd place and started his own pursuit of Lorenzo. Nevertheless, the leader started to score some consecutive quick laps heading to mid-race, putting more than 4 seconds between him and Pedrosa by Lap 15.

Pedrosa had to settle for the runner-up spot eventually, while Spies was unable to hold on to his podium finishing position in front of Ducati's Casey Stoner. The Australian passed the North American rider midway through the race and finished 11 seconds behind Lorenzo, while Valentino Rossi (probably thinking at his future with Ducati), recorded another Top 5 finish, some 17 seconds off the pace of his teammate.

Honda's Andrea Dovizioso crashed out of the race, but he was lucky enough to walk away from the Brno track in one piece. After losing control of his bike, he ended up in the middle of the track, but he was lucky enough that the field passed around him at high speeds.

Nicky Hayden finished in 6th place, ahead of Colin Edwards, Marco Melandri and Hector Barbera. Randy de Puniet, Marco Simoncelli, Aleix Espargaro and Alex de Angelis were the last riders to finish the race, as only 13 of the initial 17 contestants managed to cross the finish line.

Lorenzo's win sets him further apart from his main rival for the title Dani Pedrosa, as the point difference between the two is now 77 points. Meaning more than 3 race wins separate the two Spaniards, with only 8 races to go.
