Valentino Rossi Signs 2-Year Deal with Ducati

Ducati has finally ended the rumors and confirmed the signing of 7-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi for the upcoming 2 years. The Doctor will therefore leave his FIAT Yamaha Team at the end of this season after no less than 7 years with the Japanese manufacturer, a period of time in which he won 4 championships and 45 MotoGP races.

The move was projected for quite some time, as current Ducati rider Casey Stoner recently confirmed his split with the Italian manufacturer and the signing of a Honda deal from 2011 onwards. Under the circumstances, Ducati are now expected to confirm US rider Nicky Hayden as Rossi’s teammate for at least the upcoming campaign.

This would be the second time the two riders will compete side by side in the same team, after their time at Repsol Honda.

We are delighted to announce that Valentino Rossi will be with us from 2011. He is a paragon of excellence in the world of motorcycling, coherent with our Italian company which is a standard-bearer for “made in Italy” excellence. These are key values for success in technology, design and sportsmanship,” said a delighted Gabriele Del Torchio, President of Ducati Motor Holding, in a statement.

Less than 2 weeks back, Del Torchio hinted in an interview that Rossi would partner Hayden at Ducati starting 2011. Afterwards he denied having said that, telling the media that he’d confirm a definite position from his company after the Czech Republic GP.

Firstly, Valentino is a great fan of motorcycles and so it has always been a pleasure for me to listen his opinions. Until the Valencia GP he will remain a competitor, one so great that he has always given a special value to our victories, but as soon as he rides the Ducati for the first time, we will work together on every single detail that will develop a bike capable of showing his huge talent,” added Filippo Preziosi, Ducati Corse General Director.

Working with Valentino is one of the most exciting things for every Engineer and it’s good to know we will have this great opportunity next season,” concluded Preziosi.
