From stand-up comedian to playing a fictionalized version of himself in one of America’s greatest sitcoms, Jerry Seinfeld is a VIP in every respect. The 65-year-old Brooklyner is also known for Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and his insatiable appetite for all things Porsche.
Jerome Allen Seinfeld also happens to be one of the first people to order and take delivery of the Gen 2 Acura NSX, and in his case, we’re talking about serial number 00004. Ordered in January 2015 at the car’s debut in Detroit, the hybridized land missile now shows less than 2,600 miles on the odometer. It’s also up for grabs, and the current bid stands at $107k.
Bring a Trailer claims that chassis 19UNC1B08HY000004 has a clean Carfax report, 19- and 20-inch exclusive wheels with a polished finish, “more than $40,000 in options,” as well as a clean California title.
First things first, the wheels don’t complement the rest of the car all that well. The paintwork also happens to be a bit underwhelming for a vehicle with three electric motors, a twin-turbo V6, all-wheel drive, and a nine-speed DCT with lightning-fast shifts. But there’s an even bigger problem…
When Acura announced the pricing for the 2017 model year, the NSX used to retail at $156,000 before the destination charge. That’s a lot for a Honda in drags and a used vehicle, more so for such a rarity and technological masterpiece. To this effect, $107,777 up to this point sounds really bad.
Add to those circumstances the low mileage and famous first owner, and you’ll understand why the second-gen NSX will never be as collectible as the original. After all, the NSX we have today isn’t a trailblazing supercar nor a proper rival to the likes of the 720S and SF90 Stradale.
Going through the sales figures for the U.S. and European markets paints an even bleaker picture for the NSX, but most importantly, slow sales have prompted Acura to discount $20,000 off the retail price in May 2019. That’s a big no-no for a halo car, let alone such an exclusive breed.
