Jeep is giving the diesel version of the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon a proper sendoff. They have just unveiled a new limited-edition Gladiator FarOut powered by the EcoDiesel engine. Only 1,000 such units will be built before the diesel is retired for good.
The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon FarOut is marking the end of the Gladiator EcoDiesel production. The engine was introduced for the 2021 model year with 260 horsepower (264 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. It was mated to a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission. With a full tank of diesel fuel, it can drive as far as 500 miles (805 kilometers) before it needs to stop at the gas station again.

The off-roader is as capable as ever once it leaves the tarmac behind. It sports front and rear third-generation Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, a 3.73 axle ratio, and the Rock-Track two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio.

The front fascia displays the satin black radiator grille. The vehicle rides on 17-inch low-gloss black polished aluminum wheels shod in 33-inch mud-terrain tires. In order to highlight the rugged appearance, Jeep credited it with a steel front bumper and body-color fender flares. A commemorative "Diesel 3.0L" hood graphic and the exclusive tailgate badging remind everyone that it is a special edition.

On board the all-new Gladiator Rubicon FarOut, Jeep put black leather seats with contrasting red accents, as well as black leather-wrapped dashboard panels with red accent stitching. The LED Lighting Group, the Cold Weather Group, and the Trailer-Tow and Heavy-Duty Electrical Group are on the equipment list.

Only 1,000 vehicles will be built for the 2023 model year. They will be available for order through the end of September 2023. First customers will get their new Jeep Gladiator Rubicon FarOut at the beginning of the third quarter of 2023.

After the diesel is retired, Jeep will continue to offer the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In the United States, the FarOut package has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $12,1000. For the whole vehicle, customers have to pay at least $69,995, with the $1,795 destination charge not included.

With the diesel out of the way, Jeep is working on a hybrid Gladiator, which will come as a 2024 model year. The hybrid Gladiator will carry out the powertrain of the Wrangler as well as the 4xe lettering added to its name. That one will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, working in the company of two electric motors, for a combined output of 375 horsepower (281 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm). Energy will be stored in a 17-kWh battery pack, which will allow up to 25 miles of zero-emission driving.
