The new Subaru Forester crossover is proving quite a hit in Japan, where orders for the car have far exceeded the manufacturer’s expectations. Subaru say they have so far received 8,149 orders, in just over a month since its launch, on November 13.
This may not seem out of the ordinary, but given Subaru’s more conservative monthly estimate of 2,000 units, it represents a huge difference. We can`t compare these figures to any other market, as the Japanese are the first to get the Forester, while other markets will get it before the spring of 2013.

Back in Japan, buyers apparently love the Forester for being fun to drive, while also feeling secure on the road. They also say it is easy to drive and has good visibility and versatility. Also, 61.4% of the buyers went for a car equipped with the naturally-aspirated engine, while the remaining 38.6% went for the hot turbo version.

While it may not enjoy the same level of sales success elsewhere, we say the new Forester will surpass sales expectations on other markets, as it offers an impressive blend of qualities, few other cars can really match. Also, equipped with a diesel engine, it will also be an appealing prospect for European buyers.
