Subaru has been offering people the chance to own a dependable AWD crossover under the Forester name since 1997. The third generation arrived in Japan for the 2008 model year, launched on December 25th, 2007.
This dropped the wagon look in favor of a crossover that disguised the Impreza origins of the platform.
This car found by a Carscoop reader in a Japanese brochure, appears to be a fourth-gen model, and it will go on sale in Japan starting in mid-November. It should then make it to the US and Europe early in 2013.
The new Forester is 35 mm longer (4,595 mm long), 15 mm taller (1,795 mm tall) and 20 mm wider (1,695 mm wide). Subaru likely did this in the name of offering better interior room, which seems to be the trend with crossover.
The brochure also reveals the engine range which will used for other markets as well. The Forester gets a naturally aspirated DOHC 2.0-liter boxer engine with 148 PS (146 HP) or a 2.0-liter with twin-scroll turbocharging developing 280 PS (276 HP), the same one that will go into the Impreza STi.
Besides this, the Europeans should get a 2.0-liter diesel with 150 hp, while the US will have a 2.5-liter flat-4 with 173 hp.
