Jaguar is taking a break from teaching the art of being bad these days and to pass the time is developing the next headline grabbers, new RS sportscars with the potential to grab yet more headlines and win dynamic track battles.
Two F-Type prototypes, one coupe and one roadster, were recently spotted testing at the Nurburgring, looking flatter and faster than any Jag of the moment. A different front bumper and vented hood have been fitted to the two-seaters and covered up in camouflage. Yet we can clearly see they were created using the lessons learned from the Project 7.
Under both their bonnets is Jaguar's most powerful 5-liter engine yet, making 575 hp (566 bhp) and 680 Nm of torque. The F-Type RS models will more technologically advanced than the XKR-S. Power will be sent to the back via eight-speed Quickshift transmission and second generation Electronic Active Differential (EAD). Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes, available as an option on the F-Type R Coupe, are probably going to be fitted as standard.
Large 20-inch alloy wheel are required to make room for the 398mm ceramic discs with six-piston calipers fitted. A touch of carbon fiver will also make its presence felt, probably on the front splitter and the massive boot lid spoiler.
Of course, all that stuff is available on other cars as well and 575 PS from a 5-liter engine is not that impressive, considering Audi gets almost as much from a 4-liter V8. However, the F-Type RS will be a car you buy with your heart, the sort of motor you read about in FHM and then dream about for a couple of weeks.
