Jaguar’s future direction has been confusing at the best of times, mainly because they are so open about what they are looking into building, never what they have actually built but not shown. For a while now, the British brand has been looking into SUVs, crossovers, a 3-Series rival and even a supermini.
According to WhatCar?, Jaguar Design Chief Ian Callum still wants a supermini to rival the MINI hatch for the lineup, but knows the business case will be hard to make.
"There is hardly anything we haven't looked at as a potential Jaguar product. I have mentioned supermini and that is my personal soapbox, internally and externally. I'd love to think that one day we could make something the size of a Mini," said Callum.(
The designer says this is his favorite option, but admits a rival for the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 is much more important.
"We understand that we need to increase our portfolio. Not just from a business point of view, but we also need to get our brand more visible," Callum told the British automotive magazine.
