Jaguar F-Type Coupe to Follow Roadster

Jaguar has been playing with the idea of building SUVs for a while, and finally the company seems to be going back to its core values. In New York, on the sidelines of the auto show, the automaker recently through a party with some star guests and a gratifies XKR, and honestly we couldn’t be bothered to write about it.
But Auto Express was there and it came back with crucial information about the new F-Type two-seater, a throwback to the old E-Type that most people have been associating the British brand with for the past 50 years.

Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar global brand director told the aforementioned publication that the F-Type will play as crucial a role for Jaguar as the 911 does for Porsche.

“This will be the first true Jaguar sports car for more than 50 years,” Hallmark said to Auto Express. “Why did we choose F-Type? Because if you look at the C, D and E-Type, these names have always stood for Jaguar’s most seductive models. The F-Type is the next step in our long sports car heritage.”

“The F-Type will be more like having the XKR-S as the base model,” Hallmark said. “That’s how much of a sports car it will be. And there’s room to take the performance beyond that of the XKR-S, at least in terms of the philosophy.”

The company exec revealed that while the roadster will be first to hit the market, a coupe will surely follow as well in 12 to 18 months. This is always the Jaguar way, because and the last two-door they developed, the XK was no exception.

Auto Express speculated that the base powerplant will be a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6, while the more powerful supercharged version will have 375 hp.
